In U.S. and international extemporaneous speaking, students draw three current events questions and choose one. They have 30 minutes to prepare and present a 7-minute speech answering the question, using news articles and other materials that have been found ahead of time.

original oratory

informative speaking

Picture
In both original oratory and informative speaking, students choose their own topics, prepare, and present original 10-minute speeches. The difference between the two events lies in their purpose. Oratory persuades the audience to take some action or change its thinking about an important issue, while Info gives the audience new information about an interesting or unusual topic. In addition, in Info, students may use visual aids, such as posters.
